The Danger of Denial

The great danger of denying God’s glory is that He will pour out His wrath upon you.  When we hear someone reference, “being saved,” I often wonder if they realize what they are being saved from.

I think many would say “being saved” means being saved from the Devil, but that’s not what the Bible says.  When God saves us, He isn’t saving us from the devil, but rather, He’s saving us from the punishment that He has reserved for the devil.

In other words, God sent Jesus to save us from Himself, specifically, His wrath.

I used to feel a great burden to prove the existence of God to others, and I still feel the need to make and effort, but the burden I felt was lifted when I studied the first chapter of the Book of Romans.

Paul explains that no person will be able to claim ignorance as an excuse for not believing in God.  He lists two reasons why ignorance will be no excuse.  Romans 1:18-23

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures.

Paul is explaining that men deny God’s glory because they want to live unrighteous lives.  He further explains that God has given men a conscience (that which is known about God is evident within them) and the natural world (His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature have been clearly seen…through what has been made.)

The saddest portion of this passage to me is the part that says they exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man…

God has powerfully displayed His glory throughout the ages only to be rejected by the majority of all men who have ever lived.  Despite this fact, He still sent Jesus to save those of us who, in faith, throw ourselves at His mercy.  Praise Him! Praise Him! Jesus our blessed redeemer!

This Lord’s Day, let us bask in His infinite glory and praise Him with all of our hearts.

Much Love,
