Unless something happens to prevent it, the week of June 10-17, Rex, Tyler and I will be partnering with The Park Church of Christ of Tulsa, and going back to the Reserva Biologica Tawahka, the giant rainforest and biological reserve of southeastern Honduras.
This will be my ninth trip there, Rex’s third and Tyler’s first! It is home to a people that have become very near to my heart. A people that are the toughest I’ve ever encountered, yet soft-hearted and hospitable. A people that are open to the gospel and eager to learn about Jesus.
The trip dynamic has changed over the years. At one time it was simply a trip that focused on the building of latrines. Today, the trip still has a focus of building latrines, but with a greater emphasis on building relationships. Today, we not only work with a few families from one community, but with every family in the community through the local schools. In the schools we are given the opportunity to teach every day about Jesus. Sometimes we host a soccer clinic where we teach soccer skills coupled with VBS style lessons about Jesus and what it means to follow Him, and sometimes we take a different approach.
We continually partner with the Honduran medical mission organization, Predisan, who works alongside our group to teach basic hygiene and provide free medical and dental care to the people of the villages. Through this partnership, a group of us are given the opportunity to enter the homes of the people in the villages to share the gospel.
We have fine-tuned our mission work over the years. We have the right people in the right places doing what everyone is best suited to do. As a result, we are now able to build more latrines than ever, teach more children than ever, and share Jesus with the most people.
Our church now supports the local missionary and minister, Cristobal Ramirez. Because of the support of the church, Cristobal has been able to start a ministry training program and has been able to help with the housing needs of families in the church as well as several other outreaches.
Please pray for this work and for Rex, Tyler and I as we travel – Lord willing!
If all goes to plan, this is a trip that will happen every year, approximately the second week of June. Make plans now to come if this sounds like something that you are interested in. See Rex or I for trip details.
We also will accept trip donations – see me with how you can help if you’d like give financial support to this great work.
Much love!
