Back to Westview

Today a small group from the church will be traveling to Westview Boys Home for five days of mission work.  This will be our third trip to Westview.  We don’t know exactly what lay in store for us, but that’s just part of the adventure of missions.

We know that, based upon our group, we’ll likely be doing something that can be classified loosely under the title of construction.

In the past two trips we’ve made we have constructed part of a ropes course, piled up and burned some giant piles of brush, brush hogged, installed a metal roof, dug trenches and buried lines of electric line and even did some minor masonry work with rock.

Someone might ask, “How is that mission work?”

Part of mission work is, and has always been, the support of missionaries and mission organizations.  Jesus himself was supported in a similar way.  Luke 8:1-3 says,

Soon afterwards, He began going around from one city and village to another, proclaiming and preaching the kingdom of God. The twelve were with Him, and also some women who had been healed of evil spirits and sicknesses: Mary who was called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out, and Joanna the wife of Chuza, Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others who were contributing to their support out of their private means.

Jesus and his disciples’ mission was supported by a group of supporting women.  These women were doing their own mission work by supporting the mission of Jesus and His disciples.

The apostles were supported similarly after Jesus went back to heaven.  The apostle Paul was supported similarly as well.

This is the type of mission our trip to Westview is – We support those who are already in the midst of doing a great work for the Lord.

When I go to Honduras, I do similar work, but I also teach and preach.

It’s all missions though.  It’s all important.  At the end of the day, it’s all simply service for our King.

Furthermore, missions aren’t defined only by traveling somewhere to do something.  Missions is a state of mind.  It’s thinking and seeing the world as best we can with the eyes of Christ.  If we see a need and have the ability to somehow fulfill the need, we take a crack at it.

Please pray for us!  Those going are Rex Harris, Nathan Bradbury, Levi Turney and myself.  Please pray that God will be glorified by the work that is completed and that we will be able to help lift some of the burdens off of the wonderful servants of Westview Boys Home.

Much Love!
