Giving, Part 1
I’ve shared before that my favorite part of corporate worship is taking the Lord’s Supper. What I haven’t shared is how much I love the “separate and apart” part that comes right after the Lord’s Supper – the offering.
There is so much taught today in churches and mass publications today about giving that it’s difficult and confusing for Christians to understand what God expects of them.
There have been, and continue to be, so many church scandals that many, in and out of the church, have an automatic reflex of criticism and skepticism regarding giving.
There are also many in the church who are convinced that there is a specific amount that we have been commanded to give. There are others who are convince that they are not supposed to give anything at all. A sneak preview: Both are wrong.
Over the next few sermons I will take us all step by step through the Bible and examine what it has to say regarding giving. As I have embarked upon this personal journey of discovery, I have been pleased to find that there is no great mystery in the Bible regarding giving.
It is all very clear, but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t challenging. To put it as simply as possible, I would share only this right now: Giving is about faith and giving is about the heart. Don’t worry about exactly what that means; I will explain in great detail.
If you are serious about your relationship with God, you’re going to want to hear these next messages and maybe take some notes.
Much love!
