As we finish up our current series this Sunday, I’m very excited, and already looking forward to our new series, called, Nothing New: The Uncompromising Christ in a Compromising Culture.
Don’t get me wrong, Jesus will continue to be the focus of every lesson. Nothing other than Christ will ever take center stage in any sermon that I preach, but what I will emphasize and the primary question that I will answer is, “How do I live in this increasingly bizarre world?”
We are called to be in the world, but not of the world. So it’s crucial today to understand the Biblical approach to religious differences, cultural differences, political differences, hostility, law and authorities, etc.
Jesus says of His followers in Matthew 5:13,14, 16
13 You are the salt of the earth…14 You are the light of the world…16 Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
Jesus doesn’t qualify this commandment. He doesn’t give exceptions to the rule.
In fact, just to make it clear to us that there are no exceptions, Jesus says in the same chapter in verses 44 and 45
I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven;
I’m doing this series because God has called us to be a people who are proactive, not reactive. I don’t want to fail Jesus in how I respond to the world around me, but I’m not going to do the right things and say the right things accidentally. I need to plan ahead. I need to have my responses ready at a moment’s notice.
The ultimate goal of this series is to better equip us to win the world for Christ. He is the only hope in a lost and perishing world. Join me in getting excited about the part we get to play in showing Jesus to the world and living out our destinies as the salt and light of the world.
Much Love!
