In the Bible, options that we have pertaining to how we think, choose to spend our time and decide how to live our lives is often represented by the metaphor of paths.
Psalm 119:105 teaches us that God’s Word is a light that allows us to see and follow God’s path.
And Proverbs 16:9 teaches us that we may plan the way we want to go, but the Lord directs the steps we take as we go.
The Bible also warns us that not everyone is on God’s path when Jesus warns in Matthew 7:13-14, …the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it…and…the way is narrow that leads to life and there are few who find it.
Job, in the midst of the worst of life circumstances, gives us some great words of guidance in Job 23:8-12 when he says,
“Behold, I go forward but He is not there, and backward, but I cannot perceive Him; When He acts on the left, I cannot behold Him; He turns on the right, I cannot see Him. But He knows the way I take; When He has tried me, I shall come forth as gold. My foot has held fast to His path; I have kept His way and not turned aside. I have not departed from the command of His lips; I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my necessary food.”
In terrible circumstances, having no idea how God is working in his life, Job knows that he cannot go wrong so long as he trusts God’s path- His Word. He trusts that he will be better than just alright, but that God will cause him to come forth as gold.
What path do you follow? Are you confident in God’s guidance even when nothing makes sense?
Trust God and hold to His path. Encourage others to do the same. We never know when our path will end.
Much love!
