In 1 John 2:12-14, John writes,
12 I am writing to you, little children, because your sins have been forgiven you for His name’s sake. 13 I am writing to you, fathers, because you know Him who has been from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I have written to you, children, because you know the Father. 14 I have written to you, fathers, because you know Him who has been from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one.
John begins with a statement that is going to be the subject of our new Sunday night video series. John teaches us that our sins have been forgiven… for His name’s sake. In other words, he’s teaching that our sins have been forgiven for the glory of Christ. This is a very important truth and the focal point of our new study.
John then goes on to outline three level of spiritual maturity: children, young men and fathers. It’s important to understand that he’s not speaking only to males. It’s important to understand that age also has nothing to do, necessarily, with a person’s spiritual maturity.
He simply uses three stages of life as his analogy to discuss spiritual maturity. The brand-new Christian is the child, the young men are somewhere in-between, and the father is the picture of the spiritually mature.
Our new Sunday night study will examine how to grow spiritually regardless of your current maturity level. The lessons will be short and practical. My goal is to not overwhelm you, or myself, but rather to equip all of us to grow deeper in faith and maturity and relationship with Christ.
So, tune in Sunday afternoons or whenever it’s convenient!
Let’s grow together!
