Did you know that God expects more from some than others? It’s true. Just listen to Jesus’ words from this week’s text in Matthew 25:15-
15 To one he gave five talents, to another, two, and to another, one, each according to his own ability…
If there is only one thing that you remember about the Parable of the Talents, remember this: When Jesus says “talent,” He is not referring to a person’s natural aptitude or skill. He’s referring to a measurement of weight. And in the parable, it’s a weight of money.
The money does represent some ability and aptitude, but there’s more to it than that. The weight represents spiritual potential.
God has given some people more spiritual potential than others. For instance, not all people in the world have the Bible in their native language. These people are an example of a people that don’t have as much spiritual potential as those who have the ability to read and study the Bible and understand in a greater capacity who God is and what He expects of His followers.
You may think that you haven’t been given much spiritual potential, but if you have access to the Bible, a church family, and resources to learn and grow spiritually, you are among those who have been given a great weight, and the greater the weight, the greater the responsibility.
What are we to do with our spiritual potential? We’re to glorify God with our lives. We’re to be salt that flavors and preserves what is good in this world, chiefly, the knowledge of Jesus and what He did and what he commands His followers to do today.
We’re to be light that exposes the truth of Jesus and the lies of Satan. We’re to love God by obeying His commandments and love our neighbor as ourself.
God expects you and I to use what He has entrusted to us. He doesn’t expect us to use what we don’t have – He only expects us to use what we have.
What are you doing with God has given you?
Much love,
